Levenside Medical Practice
Levenside Medical Practice in Dumbarton has been training doctors how to become GPs since 2009. Dumbarton is only a short drive from the west end of Glasgow- many of the GP partners live there and commute quickly as the traffic is often going the other way! It is also easy to get from the south of city via the Erskine Bridge. Three of our eight partners are currently GP Trainers but all of us, and our wider team, are involved and enjoy helping trainees. Over the years we have supported trainees from all over the world including Pakistan, Nigeria, Singapore, Malaysia, Malta and all parts of UK. Medical education is a priority for us- we also take medical students from Glasgow University and have helped attached nurses and pharmacists with furthering their skills.

I joined the practice here in 2003 and been a Trainer since 2009. I have a special interest in Genitourinary Medicine (also known as Sexual Health). I used to do a weekly Sandyford service clinic until 2019. Related to this I am also happy to help patients with genital dermatology issues and male urology problems. In 2020 I completed a Diploma in Lifestyle Medicine and am happy to help patients with lifestyle changes that could improve health and well-being.
I am passionate about medical education- helping to create the next generation of doctors. I was previously the Course Organiser (2018-22) organising educational meetings for the local Trainees and Trainers. I am also a Tutor and Lecturer at Glasgow University Medical School.
Lastly, I am a GP Appraiser interviewing and supporting GPs to maintain their license to practice. This gives me a helpful insight into the lives of GPs in other areas/practices. There is a common theme of reflective practice and learning across Postgraduate (and undergraduate) education and Peer s

What Saied and Fergus would say of Chris: “The best dressed of us all (though that’s not saying much). Adroit, clear thinking, organised and good at service development. He has an eye for detail and an exceptional skill at seeing what others can easily miss. Chris embarked us as a training practice, is committed to medical education and is the person we go to for educational advice.”

What Chris and Saied would say of Fergus: “He is our go-to colleague if we have tricky medical scenarios. We wryly call him ‘The Prof’ as he has got his MRCP, does hospital clinics as well as GP and is a fountain of knowledge. He is also a wordsmith often quoting Shakespeare and using big words that we need to ask the meaning of!”

I joined the team at Levenside in 2009 and have been a GP trainer since 2012. For my sins I have been our practice’s Lead GP Partner since 2020. In terms of outside interests, I am a GPwSI in Bone Health. I have a weekly outpatient clinic at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital which I have done for more years than I care to remember. I, like Chris, do GP appraisal to help provide a perspective beyond the practice.

I was born and brought up in Iran but moved to the UK when I was a teenager. I joined this practice in 2004 and been a Trainer since 2015. I have a special interest in minor surgery and look after part of our shared care addiction clinics. As well as this I work for the HSCP as a joint Clinical Director and work in our local hospital as an integrated care GP involved in care of general medical in patient and medical assessment unit as well as GP out of hours work. This position puts me in a good place to facilitate out of hour shifts in our local centre if that is something the trainees wish.

What Chris and Fergus would say of Saied: “He’s able to cope with really challenging situations and patients. Great for helping patients with addiction problems and for his role as Clinical director to problem solve service challenges. Chris met him when he was an Obs & Gyn registrar and Chris was an SHO. He impressed Chris with his unique lateral thinking- he joined the practice just 6 months after Chris. He has kept up his surgical skills by offering our Minor surgery service within the practice- something patients really like.”
