HM Naval Base Clyde
Glasgow Clyde North also has a close training relationship with the Medical Centre in HM Naval Base Clyde, Faslane which is an accredited training practice for MOD GPSTRs who integrate with the training group and local NHS practices.
The base Medical Centre has a large (military and civilian) GP team and MDT with on-site MSK rehabilitation and Mental Health facilities. They look after the healthcare of approximately 3500 Service Personnel (Royal Navy Sailors, Royal Navy Submariners, Royal Marines and Army soldiers). The base is the home of the UK Submarine Service but also hosts a Royal Marine unit who provide security for the submarines and deploy on operations worldwide.
The base medical centre is open to exploring an innovative placement to host NHS trainees for a portion of the week for 6-month placements. This will allow interested GPSTRs an opportunity to explore areas of occupational medicine, musculoskeletal / rehabilitation Medicine. It provides a unique opportunity to understand how the military and their families integrate into the local community and to develop a deep understanding of Veterans’ healthcare.
